Passikudah feels a little removed from the rush of everyday life. The water is calm, the beach doesn’t come with a packed city sitting behind it, and nobody expects you to spend the whole day sightseeing. You can wake up early and see the morning light over the bay. Or sleep until breakfast is nearly over. It’s your honeymoon. Passikudah gives couples enough to enjoy without making the trip feel like another thing that needs organising.
The Bay Is Easy to Enjoy
The water is one of the main reasons people come here. The bay has calm, clear water that is ideal for swimming. There’s also a shallow fringing coral reef towards the outer part of the bay.
For couples, this means the beach can become part of the day rather than something you only look at from a distance. You can head down for a swim without turning it into a full outing.
Diving and water sports are available around Passikudah too. Ask what is running while you’re there, as the weather and sea conditions may affect what you can do. If an activity gets cancelled, it’s hardly a disaster. You’re still beside one of the east coast’s best-known bays.
Plenty of Resorts to Choose From
What are the best honeymoon resorts in Passikudah? The answer isn’t always the biggest or most expensive place. Start with the room and its surroundings. You’ll notice them far more than a long list of facilities you may never use.
Amethyst Resort Passikudah has Sea View Rooms and River View Rooms. The sea-facing rooms have private verandahs that open towards the beach. On the other side, the River View Rooms face the stream beside the resort and come with verandahs of their own.
A sea view is the obvious choice if you want to step outside and see the bay. The stream-facing rooms have a more sheltered feel. Neither is automatically better. It comes down to what the two of you want.
Have a look at both before making the booking. It’s a small decision, but waking up to the view you expected makes a difference.
Early Mornings Are Pretty Special Here
Passikudah sits on Sri Lanka’s east coast, so the morning light arrives over the sea. That alone makes getting up early at least once a good idea.
Take a walk before the beach warms up and then head back for breakfast. The whole thing can be over by the time you would normally start your day.
Of course, you may have absolutely no interest in leaving bed at sunrise. That’s fine too. It’s your honeymoon. You’re free to do whatever you like.
Seafood Is Part of the Experience
The east coast and seafood go hand in hand. At Amethyst Resort, Taprobane overlooks the stream and serves seafood from the region, with dishes that may feature the catch of the day.
There’s also The Barrel if you fancy a drink later. The Cool Pool Bar is another casual option. Opening times can change, so check them once you arrive.
You don’t need to make every dinner a grand romantic production. One special evening is nice. On the other nights, good food and nowhere else to rush off to will do the job.
Batticaloa Is Close Enough for a Change
After a couple of beach days, you may want to go somewhere else for a few hours. Batticaloa is around 28 kilometres south of Passikudah.
The town’s fort was first built by the Portuguese in the 17th century and later taken over by the Dutch. It sits beside the lagoon and gives you something different from another afternoon at the resort.
You can explore the town without trying to cover every attraction in one visit. Head back when you’ve had enough.
You Can Let the Days Unfold
Passikudah suits a honeymoon because you don’t need a detailed plan to enjoy it. The bay takes care of most of the entertainment, and Batticaloa is there when you’re ready to leave the beach behind for a while.
One day you’ll be up early. The next, breakfast runs late and suddenly it’s mid-afternoon. So be it. You came here to spend time together – it’s not a group tour!
